Accountant
The accounting profession is self-regulated. The major accounting bodies are -
- the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (the Institute or ICAA)
- CPA Australia (the Society)
- the National Institute of Accountants (the NIA).
Each body has procedures to discipline members who break the body's rules of ethical conduct, code of practice and / or accounting standards. If you are not satisfied with your accountant's response to your complaint (and if your accountant is a member of one of these bodies), you can contact the body for advice on what options you have. The Institute of Chartered Accountants' (ICAA's) web site has some useful information about making a complaint. You can also check its By-laws and Rules and Regulations through that page.
