Discrimination
It is against the law to discriminate against you because of your age, illness or injury, marital status, sex, physical features, political belief or activity, race, religious belief or activity, lawful sexual activity,pregnancy, status as a parent or carer, industrial activity or personal association (eg. as a relative). It is also against the law to discriminate against you in employment, accommodation, education, sport, clubs or provision of goods and services.
Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission (HREOC)
The Commission administers, and takes complaints made under, four federal laws relating to human rights and discrimination:
- the Racial Discrimination Act
- the Sex Discrimination Act
- the Disability Discrimination Act and the Human Rights
- the Equal Opportunity Commission Act.
Issue types include - race, sex, pregnancy, marital status, disability, sexual preference, age and trade union activity. The Commission's services are free to you.

How to complain
Your complaint must be in writing. It can be lodged with the Commission online or you can download and print the Commission's complaint form, fill it in and mail it back. Include copies of any other information the is relevant to your issue.
